PROCEEDING SLOWLY
If a thing is worth doing, it is
worth doing slowly . . . very slowly.
Gypsy Rose Lee
I am sick sick sick.
Sore throat.
Lungs making a sound
like ball bearings vibrating
across a sheet of tin with
each breath I take. Half a day ago
I took the first doses of codeine-
based cough syrup and an antibiotic.
The throat pain is slightly diminished,
but the ball bearings continue to rattle.
Sick sick sick sick sick! Miserable!
