MEN IN HIGH PLACES
Thursday, July 7, 2011
This morning I sent Dad a PDR obituary for an 87-year-old St. Johns woman neither of us knew, but he recognized her parents names and figured out that she was a sister of Uncle Reubens wife. While in high school, Dad, with his dad, replaced a roof on Reubens in-laws barn. It was a high barn, Dad said, with a rock pile below. In the course of removing the cupola, by means of hay ropes attached to two tractors, a rope broke. The cupola slid down the roof slope, narrowly missing young Gordon and not-so-very-old Earl. Had it hit them, my father would never have read todays obit. He is thinking of attending the funeral tomorrow, in the expectation of seeing cousins.
