A DESSERT DEFERRED

Re: Status of Pineapple Custard Pie, as of Fri, Aug 12, 2011, 11:30AM.

Jenny, dear, I baked your pie yesterday and served portions of it to Dad, Uncle Art, Cousin Barry, and Debbie Albertini. I ate one-eighth of it myself. I estimate an objective pie taster or Standard & Poor’s would rate it Triple A. As of this writing, three servings remain (one slice plus the “baby pie”).

Taking into consideration your work schedule, play schedule, morning glucose reading, and your wish to wash Filthy farm animals, are you inclined to travel to Fjord today to eat your pie?

I shall try to wait for your reply. At some point—and that could be five minutes from now if I accidentally open the refrigerator and rest my greedy eyes on that gorgeous slice and the darling baby pie—I myself will wolf down what’s left of this dessert.

I don’t know if wolves eat pies. Does that truly matter, Jenny? The immediate question is, will Jenny eat the last of HER pie?

How you resolve that question, Ms. Locke, will assist me in reaching a decision on your proposal of marriage.

                          Sincerely yours,
                          Mr. Soapy Sales*

*Oh, how fitting. After I slipped in the soaps allusion, I looked up S. Sales to make sure I was spelling Sales so you could recognize it. Wiki tells us,

Soupy Sales (January 8, 1926 — October 22, 2009)[2] was an American comedian, actor, radio-TV personality and host, and jazz aficionado.[4] He was best known for his local and network children's television show, Lunch with Soupy Sales; a series of comedy sketches frequently ending with Sales receiving a pie in the face, which became his trademark.
