POSING FOR MARY CASSATT
A day after David Fischer returned from a Sunday excursion to Milwaukee with his nephew, the nephews two young sons, and the boys three-month-old sister, Fischer reported to a friend:
... Yes, of course I have showered and scrubbed, but my wrists still smell faintly of baby vomit. I dont mind. During the one hour I carried Rose Anne in my arms at the art museum, I received, I believe, more warm smiles from women than in all of my previous twenty-three years of wishing to win womens approval.
