SEEKING CLARITY & GUIDANCE
David C. Fischer, age 66, of Fjord, Wisconsin, sometimes grows a bit annoyed at illegible, incomprehensible, difficult to find, or entirely absent notices of Best If Used By, Sell By, Best If Used Before, Use By, Exp, If It Were Me, I Wouldnt Eat This Stuff After, and so forth on food products. Upon encountering illegible, incomprehensible, difficult to find, or entirely absent notices, Fischer sometimes aspires to be appointed King of the World so that he could require manufacturers of perishable products sold in Wisconsin supermarkets to place a demonstrably legible and uniformly formatted pull date immediately above the bar code on all such packaged products. Make it readable, make it meaningful, and put it where a shopper can find it—that would be King David of Fjords decree.
While awaiting his appointment to that high office, Fischer has been spending approximately eighteen percent of his grocery shopping time shaking his head in dismay and muttering, sputtering, and cursing. This, coincidentally, happens to be very nearly the same percentage of time he shakes his head in dismay and mutters, sputters, and curses while engaging in conversations with Lutherans on matters of theology, religion, and ecclesiastical polity. ♦
