Many years ago I received a certain brownies recipe from a superb cook with whom I was long acquainted. For reasons I need not here recite, I never tried out the recipe until this past Friday night. On Saturday a foodie friend provided a frank critique of those first-batch brownies. Because I am a slow writer (and a believer in accentuating the positive), I scribbled in my Day-Timer calendar only a single quotation from the foodies review: ...but pretty damn good.
I judged the review itself to be pretty damn good, and so, before many more years go by, I intend to adjust the recipe and make a second attempt to earn sweet, warm, unqualified praise.
If you have paid attention to how I categorize the writings I publish on Sundays, you probably will not be surprised to see that I have called this one theological commentary.
