BUT WHO’S COUNTING?

A sixty-six-year-old male resident of Fjord, Wisconsin, consulted unlicensed psychologist David Fischer today—yes, that’s right, on the Sunday after the Thanksgiving holiday—and told Fischer, “This morning when I first woke, I realized, My gosh! This is November 29! A moment later I realized, I am only one year younger than one of my girl cousins whose wedding I attended when I was four years out of high school, and she will, tomorrow, have been married forty-four years and four days, while I myself have been married only one year and one day today. How, Dave, do you think that makes me feel?”

“Celebratory?” Fischer suggested. Then Fischer wrote a prescription for antidepressants for his patient, and both men enjoyed a good laugh, knowing full well that the local druggist would refuse to fill it.  ♦
