A WORD OF ADVICE

December 3, 2016

Dear Lester,

Celeste just found, on the Internet, a current weather report for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. I told her I would suggest to you that you take along a jacket and make sure the car is gassed up if you are going over there. Celeste scoffed. “Les is a big boy, isn’t he?” she said.

We saw a few snowflakes swirling around here in Fjord today, our first of the season. “New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible” is the official forecast for tomorrow. I spent a while this afternoon—in zori, jeans, and flannel shirt—in our chilly garage, searching through five storage closets and a heaped-high work bench for a snow brush, in case we need it tonight when we park at Dad’s church during a Christmas concert. Finally found the brush hanging from a nail on the wall, in plain sight, right where a sensible person would have hung it last spring.

I believe you said you’d send a copy of the remarks you offered at your mother’s service; I’m looking forward to reading them.

Love, Dave
