Novelist Philip Roth, age eighty-five, died on Tuesday. Oh, how I, a timid skeptic, admired Mr. Roth and his prose!
If you havent yet read Roth, Id say start slow: listen to what Fresh Air shared on Thursday and Friday this past week.

On Sunday, May 27, at 8:00AM, a reader remarked in an e-mail to Mr. Grossmann:
Roth died old, Roth died young.
At 8:53AM, in an e-mail, Mr. Grossmann requested clarification:
You are saying Roth had a youthful vitality of mind and spirit into old age?
At 9:16AM the reader replied:
yes! that's what I said! not! but I like what you said better.
As always, Mr. Grossmann invites further comment from readers.
