Didn’t go to the farm today, haven’t gone to the post office, but the night is young. And, reportedly, warm. I enjoy the walk, for whatever it may be worth.
Received this afternoon the Happy New Year cards we ordered online, with an extremely touristy photo of Celeste and me on the front and, on the back, our names imprinted in gold-colored ink. Please let us know if you don’t hear from us by the Fourth of July.
We entered our entire Christmas address list into the card order, so the envelopes were provided complete with addresses, from-and-to, isn’t that pretty cool? Just add a little note and a stamp!
Not two hours after UPS brought the cards to our door, Celeste received a phone call from a high school classmate, who let us know another of their friends in the Class of ’57 had headed off into the sunset. That was spooky timing. I attempted to console my wife by joking that we will now have one wasted envelope and one surplus card. I will double-check with Emily Post, but I sort of don’t think we should send the deceased lady’s family a sympathy note on a card with grinning tourists and a bright “Happy New Year.”
Sleep well.
Love, Dave
